| For many years the food service industry has requested but has never been able to get shatterproof lamps for their ultraviolet sterilization fixtures. To provide an additional level of safety, American Ultraviolet offers uv resistant-coated, shatterproof T5 germicidal lamps. These lamps will, when broken, retain all fragments of quartz and mercury within the uv resistant coated sleeve and maintain the sterility of the HVAC environment. American Ultraviolet Company offers this option for all of our lamps.
One of the biggest obstacles was the transmission of the 254 nm wavelength required for proper UV sterilization. American Ultraviolet has overcome this problem and, although there is a minimal reduction (approximately 15%) in the UV output of the lamp, we believe the advantages far outweigh this nominal reduction in UV energy.
Now our customers can use the fixtures they already have in place and, at the same time, make those lamps shatterproof . In addition, we have found that this coating allows the 185 nm (ozone-producing wavelength) to pass through, meaning that customers using “ozone-producing” lamps can also experience the peace of mind provided by shatterproof lamps.
The following pictures show the possibilities of utilizing these shatterproof lamps.
