Hot and Cold Cathode Construction

Slimline, instant start, hot cathode lamps have triple-coiled electronics as cathodes that are heated by the arc current. American Ultraviolet's filament construction uses a molybdenum lead in a clamped-filament design similar in construction to standard fluorescent lamps resulting in an improved, shock and vibration resistant lamp. Instant start lamps are especially suited to applications such as waste water and purification of moving air that require "round the clock" usage.

Cold cathode lamps are also instant starting lamps utilizing a large cylindrical cathode instead of a coil filament so that the lamps have a very long life unaffected by frequency of starting AUV's unique electrode construction, which uses two-lead assemblies, and virtually eliminates loose shell problems.

Preheat-start/hot cathode lamps generally use standard off-the-shelf fluorescent ballasts providing advantages in economy and space. Preheat lamps have four electrical connections per lamp and require more wiring than instant start lamps.
