UV Emitting Heat Shrinkable Tubing UV Lamps for Shatterproof Applications

For many years the food service industry has requested but has never been able to get shatterproof lamps for their ultraviolet sterilization fixtures.

In an effort to accommodate the needs of the food service industry as well as many other industries, American Ultraviolet Co. has researched and located a coating that can be placed on virtually any T5 germicidal lamp, making the lamp shatterproof.

One of the biggest obstacles was the transmission of the 254 nm wavelength required for proper UV sterilization. American Ultraviolet has overcome this problem, and while there is a minimal reduction (approximately 15%) in the UV output of the lamp, we believe the advantages far outweigh this nominal reduction in UV energy.

Now our customers can utilize the fixtures they already have in place and at the same time make those lamps shatterproof. In addition, we have found that this coating allows the 185 nm (ozone-producing wavelength) to pass through, meaning that customers utilizing "ozone-producing" lamps can also experience the peace of mind provided by shatterproof lamps.

The following pictures show the possibilities of utilizing these shatterproof lamps.

Figure 1 shows a typical germicidal lamp (GML005) with the shatterproof coating operating in an LTC-2 Liquid Tank unit.

Figure 2 shows the same lamp after having been dropped to a concrete floor, with the quartz jacket broken but still held in place with the help of the shatterproof coating.

Figure 3 is a closer view of the same lamp held in place with the help of the shatterproof coating.
